Champagne at Fine+Rare

In honour of National Champagne Week, Chris Kelly shines the spotlight on everybody's favourite form of liquid celebration.

Drinking Champagne is one of life’s great pleasures – making any occasion feel that little but more special. At FINE + RARE we have access to an unparalleled range of Champagnes across the price points and spanning some glorious vintages.  Read on to find out more about our many spectacular listings, including September's blockbuster releases from firm favourites Dom Perignon and Taittinger.

The Champagne Region

One of the most Northerly grape growing regions in France, Champagne is home to sparking cuvées usually crafted from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Menunier  that are a byword for excellence, exuberance and of course, celebration.  No special occasion is complete without Champagne and it should be an important part of any collection – large or small.

The Great Houses of the Champagne Region, Some of the Globe’s Biggest Luxury Brands

Bollinger, Moet & Chandon, Lanson, Taittinger, Pol Roger - Champagne is the home of some of the world’s biggest and most revered luxury brands. The famous yellow label of Veuve Clicquot is a byword for luxury and prestige and one of the most recognisable of any product on the market. They’ve not achieved this by chance – it’s a reputation built on years of meticulous attention to detail and a fundamental commitment to quality.

The Best Champagne in the world?

If you’re looking for the very best, then you’re spoilt for choice in Champagne. Of course much comes down to personal preference and the house style; the brooding muscular power of Krug, style and panache of Dom Perignon or the rarity and exclusivity of the likes of Salon or Philipponnat.

The Great Vintages in Champagne

While much is consumed when criminally young, the best champagnes have a mercurial ability to age.  Wines from 1973 and 1979 are showing beautifully, while modern greats like 1996, 2002 and 2008 all have absolutely stellar futures ahead – if you can find them. Meanwhile, 2006 has just seen a burst of new releases from the likes of Dom Perignon and Taittinger.
