Hostellerie des Clos

Housed in a 13th century building, the impeccable service at this restaurant speaks to a bygone era. The set menu is of tremendous quality, yet it’s the cheese trolley that consistently steals the show; the huge selection of local cheeses tempts the taste buds and complements the incredible wine selection on offer. It was a mind-blowing bottle of Raveneau’s Montee de Tonnerre 2005 tasted here that first made me fall in love with the wines of this region and continues to keep me coming back for more...

This no-frills bistrot is the ultimate lunchtime pit-stop and a real favourite amongst the locals. It boasts the most impeccably executed sea bass and aged Chablis combination I have ever tasted, with the freshness of the ingredients and brilliant condition of the wines working in perfect unison. An unrivalled atmosphere and very reasonable priced.

Le Pot d'Etain

24 rue Bouchardat, 89440 L’Isle-sur-Serein

Situated 35km outside of Chablis, this restaurant’s 2,500-strong wine list is a bible of every great French wine ever made and is well worth the pilgrimage for any connoisseur. Equidistant from the Loire, Champagne and Burgundy regions, the legend goes that this is where some of the top producers meet to compare each other’s cuvees. The cooking is superb and incredibly fresh – the wine list is one that is difficult to beat.
