San Polino

San Polino is a certified organic and biodynamic Italian wine producer based in Montalcino, Tuscany. The small, family-run farm is comprised of 2.5 hectares of vines - where only Sangiovese is grown- and 1.5 hectares of olive trees. Only Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino are produced, as well as an organic olive oil. In great vintages the winery will also produce a Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. The history of the winery dates back to the 16th century where it was registered as one of the properties belonging to the Montalcino hospital. In the 18th century the house and land changed hands when the noble Piccolomini family from Siena (see Ciacci Piccololmini d’Aragona) took possession. In 1991, the current owners, Luigi Fabbro and Katia Nussbaum, took ownership and planted new vineyards years later. Their first vintage was released in 2001 and today they continue to produce only 10,000-12,000 bottles per year. These wines are beautiful expressions of pure, terroir-driven Brunello di Montalcino set apart from most other producers by their organic and biodynamic status.
