Côte-Rôtie

The northernmost appellation in the Rhône, Côte-Rôtie literally translates as “the roasted slope”. On the steep, southeast-facing hill around the town of Ampuis, the vines soak up the heat, producing intensely flavoured Syrah that is some of the best in the world.

About the wines of Côte-Rôtie

Soils transition between sandy limestone and brown, iron-rich sites which produce the longer-living, more structured wines. Syrah is king but can be co-fermented with up to 20% Viognier, which brings colour, elegance and aromatics to the finished wines. Rich, peppery and structured, the best Côte-Rôtie can age for years, developing sophisticated, gamey and leathery aromas.
