Romanee-Conti 'is Burgundy's standout producer'
Wine lovers who want to branch out from Bordeaux have been advised to sample the delights of Burgundy wine, which have a "legendary" ability to age and are excellent paired with food.
Although Burgundy can be a difficult region to collect from due to small production quantities, it is also one of the most rewarding, Christies.com reports, with the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) as a standout producer in terms of rarity and price.
"This is the one producer in the region of whom any bottling in any vintage will be a delight that will improve for years to come," the website advised.
"Another producer who approaches the same quality (and often the same price) is Domaine Leroy, operated by a former owner of DRC."
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, it is the limestone beneath Burgundy's vineyards that give the wines their famous ability to age, with some pinots frequently cellared for up to 50 years.
