Quinta do Noval 1966 in silent charity auction

A Spanish teacher who became the owner of a bottle of rare vintage port is auctioning the wine to raise money to improve education in Mexico.

Judith Pasco, founder of the Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation, received a bottle of Quinta do Noval 1966 as a gift six years ago, the Peninsula Daily News reports.

Her friend Damiana, who owns a wine bar in Sequim, did some research and found that the vintage is "almost impossible to find".

A silent auction for the Quinta do Noval 1966 began last week, and will continue until July 5th, with the bidding currently standing at over $200 (£125).

Proceeds from the auction will go towards Mujeres de Maiz, which provides college scholarships, programmes for children and healthcare in rural Mexico.

It is not the charity's first brush with the world of wine - recently, an event at the Olympic Cellars Winery raised $1,000 (£625) for the cause.
