Wine enthusiasts looking for bargain Bordeaux have again been urged to consider wines from the 2008 vintage.
Alain Moueix, president of the Association de Grands Crus Classes de Saint-Emilion, told The Drinks Business last week that 2008 Bordeaux is the best value wine in the region.
Columbia College wine instructor Tom Bender agrees, saying that 2008 has been largely overlooked despite its quality.
Writing for the Modesto Bee, he says that 2008 Bordeaux was released at a difficult time - the height of the financial crisis - and it was then overshadowed by the exquisite quality of the 2009 vintage.
Yet he maintains that this means many excellent Bordeaux wines can still be obtained at bargain prices, when compared to those from other years.
Mr Bender's recommended wines include 2008 Chateau Troplong Mondot, 2008 Chateau Trottevielle and 2008 Chateau Pichon Lalande, which benefits from "wonderful toasty oak and dark cherry in the nose".
