Krug Champagne holds first Grand Cuvee comparative tasting

Champagne vineyard Krug has held its first ever comparative Grand Cuvee tasting.

The label wanted to use the event in London, hosted by the Institute of Masters of Wine, to showcase the wine's ageing capacity, the Drinks Business reports.

Visitors got the chance to experience the maturation of Krug Grand Cuvee Champagne from 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Krug president Margareth Henriquez, told the publication that the Champagne house had started to age its Grand Cuvee after discovering "it ages beautifully".

"I like to say we are increasing our patrimony. The philosophy is to create the same taste - we look for maximum consistency," she added.

After trying the Grand Cuvee, guests were given the chance to sample Krug's 1990, 1995, 1996 and 1998 vintages.

For wine enthusiasts looking to get a bottle of Champagne or two for the festive period, wine critic Jancis Robinson recommended the 2002 Dom Perignon or the 2000 Bollinger Grande Annee in a piece for the Financial Times.
