Fine wine replaces clubbing for grown-up New Yorkers
A new kind of boy's night out is emerging in New York, it has been revealed, as the city's elite lawyers and stockbrokers eschew poker and clubbing for the rather more refined pleasures of fine wine.
Peter Sotos, an entertainment lawyer who recently entertained his friends with a 1993 chateau Mouton Rothschild, told the New York Post that a dinner with fine wine "passes muster with the wives - and it's a nice way to spend an evening with friends".
Tassos Zapantis, general manager of Tribeca hotspot Thalassa, added that the activity has become so popular that when somebody enters with an impressive bottle of wine, a sommelier will be assigned to match the menu with the drink.
"We acknowledge and are usually impressed by some of these vintages that come in," he told the newspaper.
Some of New York's notable wine spots include the Blue Ribbon Downing Street Bar, Bar Jamon and the Jakewalk.
