Domaine Leflaive and chateau Latour are expert's 'desert island wines'
People considering their next big wine purchase may wish to take the advice of Christie's' wine specialist Peter Mansell, who was interviewed by the auction house recently.
Mr Mansell studied in Spain as part of the Erasmus scheme, where he first acquired his taste for fine wine.
When questioned about his "desert island wine", the expert described a mixed case featuring a top white Burgundy from Domaine Leflaive or Ramonet, as well as Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs.
For reds, the 1970, 1982 and 1996 vintages of Chateau Latour were among his top picks, while he finished with a vintage port from Taylors or Fonseca.
Mr Mansell commented: "Wine is a fascinating product, there are so many different nuances of it and there is always something new to try.
"Wine is also a very social thing; most of my friends appreciate good wine."
Christie's will auction some fine examples of chateau Latour and Petrus, among others, at New York's Rockefeller Center this month.
