Dom Perignon Rose Gold bought for £36k
London's Westbury Hotel saw a world first recently, after a mystery man in the Polo Bar paid out more than £36,000 for a Methuselah of Dom Perignon Rose Gold 1996.
Not content with his wallet-emptying feat, the patron - believed to be a Russian billionaire - went on to reward the barman with a £10,000 tip for the bubbly.
Although it is not the highest amount ever paid for a Methuselah, equivalent to eight bottles, of Champagne, it is believed to be the most expensive ever sold in a UK bar.
Dom Perignon Rose Gold is among the world's most exclusive drinks, with just 35 bottles produced per year made from grapes specially selected from the top Grand Cru vineyards, before being stored for 12 years prior to bottling.
If the mystery man's behaviour seems a little extravagant, don't forget that the world's oldest woman - 114-year-old Eugenie Blanchard - recently told Association France-Press that she still enjoys the occasional glass of Champagne.
