Plans to build a wine museum and cultural centre in Bordeaux have moved a step closer to fruition as five finalist design teams have been selected.
Led by the city's mayor Alain Juppe, 18 judges selected the five groups who will now battle it out for the rights to the €46 million (£38.9 million) contract, the Drinks Business reports.
Sylvie Cazes, president of Domaines Jean-Michel Cazes and Bordeaux city councillor, explained that the judging panel are keen to see a design that gets wine lovers returning again and again.
"Future visitors must find it an interesting and enjoyable place, one which they will want to come back to: the interior will make all the difference, so we are looking for innovative designs," she told the publication.
The Barolo region of Piedmont recently opened its own wine museum to celebrate the area's winemaking history.
Swiss-born museum designer Francois Confino has promised that visitors will have fun engaging with the exhibits and experiencing the region's culture.
