Croatia's celebrity island Hvar is set to cement its luxurious reputation after Dom Perignon announced a rare tasting of Rose Gold Mathusalem.
The Luxury Cuvee announced to Digital Journal that it would host the wine tasting on the island in May, which will rival the most expensive Champagne buying in the world. Hvar has become a hugely popular destination among the rich and famous of late, and was recently ranked by Lonely Planet as its number five destination for 2012.
It's hardly surprising that the island would attract so much attention, it is famous for its lavender, sun-kissed Adriatic Sea and being the only island in the world home to three UNESCO sites. Among the celebrities to have graced the island is Prince Harry and Beyonce, who are both regulars to the Croatian hotspot.
In typical Monico style, the harbours are lined with luxury yachts which come to the area to enjoy pristine water and idyllic sailing conditions. Once docked up, passengers can also enjoy excellent restaurants and Venetian ambiance of the island which is home to the origins of the first organised tourism in Europe in 1868.
One such restaurant is Gariful, which boasts clients such as Giorgio Armani and Roman Abramovich. The leading fish restaurant is not only famous for its luxury cuisine; it boasts a wine and champagne list which is legendary on the Adriatic.
It also has a strong partnership with Dom Perignon, which is why the luxury label chose the venue to host an exclusive VIP tasting with up to 40 specially invited guests coming to Gariful for an exclusive tasting of the Dom Perignon range, according to the restaurant's owner, Ivan Gospodnetic.
The evening will include the sale of one of only 35 bottles of Dom Perignon's 6-litre Gold Rose, whose bottle is worth more than the sparkling wine inside. The bottle, which will not be opened, but will be on sale for 1 million Croatian kuna (US$200,000) will be one of the most expensive bottles ever on sale.
