Today (September 9th) sees a £1.04 million wine sale at Christie's auction house in London, which will feature wines from the chateaux Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild as well as vintage ports dating back to 1908.
Particularly exciting is a selection of bottles from 1959, generally considered one of the top vintages of the past 50 years and certainly among the most exclusive - the Lafite, for instance, is expected to fetch around £30,000 according to Bloomberg.
Two bottles of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1900 will also go under the hammer along with a selection of 36 post-war vintage ports. A single lot comprising a case each of Croft 1945, Taylor 1948 and Graham 1948 is expected to go for £25,000.
In June, Christie's London hosted a sale of rare Burgundy that saw six magnums of Romanee-Conti Grand Cru 1971 sell for £71,300, as well as a 12-bottle lot of Hermitage La Chapelle 1961 for £69,000.
