Chateauneuf-du-Pape a favourite of jazz singer Wilson
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is the perfect winter drink for Mississippi-born jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson, who recently revealed that she enjoys fine wines during her recording sessions.
In an interview with Wine Spectator, the Grammy award-winner said she is also partial to French white wines from the Loire valley, although she is also partial to California's Robert Mondavi.
Additionally, Ms Wilson said she believes her musicians play better when plied with quality food and wine.
"Wine is an essential element on every European tour," she told the publication.
"One former musical director, Brandon Ross, always requested a Brunello di Montalcino or Chateau Coufran for the artist rider."
She has expressed an interest in working with a winery to develop a private label that reflects her music - "seductive, heady, smoky and hypnotic".
As well as being named Time Magazine's best American singer in 2001, Ms Wilson received Grammy awards in 1996 and 2009.
