Chateau Petrus rises to top of Christie's auction
A Christie's auction of chateau Petrus at New York's Rockefeller Center has yielded some impressive prices, with one case of vintage 2000 going for $42,000 (£29,000).
Meanwhile, two separate cases of Petrus 1989 were sold for $36,000 (£25,000) each, while examples of Lafite, Montrachet and Romanee-Conti also went under the hammer.
Charles Curtis, Master of Wine and head of North American wine sales at Christie's, said the auction attracted a great deal of interest from Asian and American collectors alike.
"Petrus drew the top prices of the day, along with mature vintages of Lafite, Romanee-Conti, Montrachet and the California stand-out Harlan Estate," he commented.
Earlier this month, a dozen bottles of Hermitage La Chapelle 1961 emerged as one of the biggest lots at a Christie's auction in London, selling to an Asian private buyer for £69,000.
The highest price at the event was commanded by six magnums of Romanee-Conti Grand Cru 1971, which sold for £71,300.
