Chateau Margaux launches third wine from 2009 grapes

Chateau Margaux has announced that it will shortly be producing a third wine from the vines on its historic estate.

The Chateau Margaux brand is already complemented by second wine Pavillion Rouge, but this will now be joined by an as-yet unnamed third label, Decanter reports.

Paul Pontallier, managing director of Chateau Margaux, told the publication that the new wine will be "simple and to the point".

"We have been ever more severe with our selection for Pavillon Rouge but the 2009 vintage was so good, and all barrels have aged so well, that we decided it was appropriate to create a third wine of the estate," he said.

The 2009 vintage will not be sold en primeur and will be held back in bottle, but Mr Pontallier added that the high quality of the 2010 harvest means that there is likely to be a third label for this year as well.

Critics are largely in agreement about the quality of the forthcoming 2010 Bordeaux.

Will Lyons of the Wall Street Journal even suggested that prices for 2010 Bordeaux could exceed the records set by the 2009 vintage.
