Chateau Margaux 2009 wine 'astonishing'
Paul Pontallier at Chateau Margaux has created an "astonishing" wine, according to Will Lyons, writing for the Wall Street Journal.

With plenty of positives coming from the critics who tasted Bordeaux en primeur, Lyons believes that Margaux has an "amazing depth of flavour and fruit".

He also described the wine's tannins as possibly the "silkiest" he has ever tasted.

As for other wines he was fond of on his time in Bordeaux, Lyons named the Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines on the left bank as impressive, especially those from the villages of Pauillac, Saint-Estephe and St-Julien.

A number of wines from Pomerol also stood out from the crowd, the wine critic added.

He also pointed out that the wines from the 2009 vintage will be particularly expensive, with a number of chateaux claiming they have produced their finest offerings yet.

Elin McCoy, in an article for Bloomberg, recently named wines from Petrus and Chateau Latour as some of her top picks from the en primeur testing.
