The Burgundy region has confirmed that it will be spending €400,000 (£336,000) each year in support of its bid to become a Unesco World Heritage site.
This application hopes to see the Climats of the Cote d'Or established as a Unesco World Heritage Cultural Landscape, reports Decanter.
Climats is an expression unique to Burgundy that refers to the combination of geology, grape varieties, wine knowledge, soil, subsoil, exposure microclimate and taste profile in the crus.
Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanee Conti, said the bid demonstrates that all vignerons have a responsibility to protect their terroir.
"We all share this strip of land. Burgundy is a model for the whole viticultural world and the reference for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay," he told the publication.
The Burgundy marketing body BIVB recently announced it had put together a €400,000 marketing budget to boost awareness of the region's wine in the Far East.
