Wine lovers will be able to use their iPhones to find additional
information about their chosen bottle of Bordeaux and suggested food pairings later
this year, after trade body the CIVB launches a new app.
The free app, which will be released on October 1st, will allow
users all over the world to take a photograph of any wine label
from Leoville Lascases to Cheval Blanc and receive a factsheet
detailing grape variety, appellation and suggested drinking dates,
decanter.com reports.
It is part of the CIVB's efforts to update the image of Bordeaux and around 80 per cent of the
region's estates are expected to be featured by the launch
date.
"People say Bordeaux is hard to understand and
old-fashioned," the trade body's Chris Chateau told the
website.
"The goal of this app is to help consumers to understand
Bordeaux and buy the region's wines."
It follows news that Bordeaux's wine industry is planning to
reduce the number of "low-end" producers and focus more on upmarket
wines in future.
