British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor has been commissioned to create the label for 2009 Chateau Mouton Rothschild.
The simple yet powerful design is described by the estate as: "At once austere and flamboyant, the gouache he has created for Mouton Rothschild 2009 expresses the fertile thrust of plant life, the result of an intense encounter between matter and light."
Kapoor is a well-known figure is the contemporary art world, and won the Turner Prize in 1991. He has also been commissioned to create the official sculpture for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Bordeaux First Growth routinely gives up part of its label for a unique design. Painter Xu Lei was commissioned for the 2008 vintage - a decision which proved popular with buyers in his native China.
Artists do not take a fee for their work, but instead receive cases of "their" vintage.
