The first tasting reports for 2010 Bordeaux have been glowing and many are described as "extraordinary", although concerns remain about how the wines will age.
Experts speaking to Decanter at a London tasting event for Right Bank Bordeaux agreed that the wines are very drinkable as they are, although many have not finished their malolactic fermentation.
This means that the acidity levels will drop further, which Beverley Blanning believes may not serve them well.
"The wines are very drinkable with nice acid but it is the acid which gives the wines their freshness, and without that they may become unbalanced," she told the publication.
It was also noted that 2010 Bordeaux has exceptionally high alcohol levels with highs of 15.5 per cent, creating an average of 14.5 per cent across the range.
Mathieu Chadronnier, managing director of major Bordeaux negociant Groupe CVBG Dourthe-Kressmann, recently suggested that the quality of 2010 Bordeaux will see American Investors return to the fine wine market.
