1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild prices continue to escalate

Chateau Lafite Rothschild is now so valuable that the 1982 vintage is worth eight times its weight in silver.

According to the Drinks Business, 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild has risen in value by 61 per cent so far this year, and is worth £3,500 per bottle.

Weighing around 750g, each bottle is worth eight times the same weight of silver, as well as four times its weight in black truffles.

The publication points to popularity in Asia for the swell in value, noting that the price rises are directly attributable to the growth of the fine wine market in China.

While the news provider expects Chateau Lafite Rothschild values to experience peaks and troughs in the new year, the overall trend is expected to be further significant growth in 2011.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal noted that one millilitre of Chateau Lafite Rothschild is now worth the same amount as a whole bottle of Britain's most popular brand of wine, Blossom Hill.
