Critic Notes

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts was showing some reduction on the nose, although there is clearly plenty of ripe red cherry and cranberry fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a silver bead of acidity. This comes across as being very harmonious with good backbone; saline in the mouth with a persistent, peppery aftertaste that lasts for over a minute. This is simply a Beaux Monts from the top-drawer. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2020-2040

An overtly floral and spicy nose is also quite restrained if exceptionally pretty with its cool array of spice, Asian-style tea and red and blue pinot fruit scents. There is terrific vibrancy to the much more mineral-driven medium weight flavors that also culminate in a linear and delineated finish though without the leanness of the Gruenchers. This will need a few years to flesh out but the underlying material appears to be present such that it will very likely occur. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com

A visit from Domaines Barons de Rothschild
This week we were honoured to host our long standing partner Domaines Barons de Rothschild's commercial director Jean-Sebastien Philippe for a very special tasting.... Domaine Hudelot Noellat - Top picks of 2018
Our visit to Domaine Hudelot Noellat during our autumn stint in Burgundy was easily one of the highlights of the trip. Expectations were already high since Charles Van Canneyt (winemaker at the domaine) has been on a roll, producing fantastic wines at this property since taking over from his uncle in 2008. Whilst Charles prefers the cooler vintages in Burgundy, ...

F+R Visits Domaine Leroy
Visiting Domaine Leroy is a highlight on any fine wine calendar and this year seemed ever more fortunate, finding the 2017s as composed as they will ever be, finishing up their last week of élevage in barrel before bottling planned for next week. On top of that Gilles points out that the 2017s have been the most consistently expressive vintage ...
