I really loved the 2012 Vintage Tunina. This blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit only sees stainless steel and is packaged in a screw cap bottle. It is released two years after the harvest despite this fresh and immediate approach. The wine shows budding complexity that becomes more apparent as it opens in the glass. This versatile expression shows bright fruit intermingled with mineral, smoke and ash. This is a terrific Italian wine to drink with gusto. The price point is the only negative aspect I see. Pomerol: A Tale of Two Vintages
We report from a visit by Pomerol Séduction, an organisation promoting eight top wines from the iconic Right Bank appellation in Bordeaux. On the tasting table were Bordeaux 2012s and 2015s - two very different vintages that both have stories to tell. As the scramble for this year’s En Primeur offerings from Bordeaux reached its climax last week, the FINE+RARE Team saw ...

Bordeaux 2016 & 2014 – Retrospective tastings and a comparison of vintages
I remember tasting the 2016s during En Primeur and finding them incredibly easy to taste, largely due to the tannins being so integrated into the wines at such a youthful stage. This is due to the very long ripening season, quite unique to the vintage. But the other element that was raised in the masterclass was the noticeably lower level ...

Vintage Charts
2013 is already being written about even though the grapes are only just in and, in most cases, fermenting. We are some distance from the finished product, so calling the quality of the vintage in many cases is a little like speculating on the career prospects of a two-year-old. But we do it nonetheless (and, of course, my two-year-old will ...

A Mixed Vintage
When Bud Cuchet and I visited Bordeaux in early October all looked set fair for a very good vintage. There are few better barometers of a vintage’s quality than the faces of the men tasked with making and selling the wine, and there were smiles all round as we inspected the vineyards in the beautiful October sunshine. Sadly, whilst we ...

Vintage Port 2016
Not since 2011 have so many Port houses declared a vintage year. The good news is that the 2016s have been defined by their “purity and refinement” and the universal declaration indicates high quality across the board. The bad news is that production levels are down. For the Symington Family Estates Port houses, including Dow’s, Graham’s and Warre’s, production is ...
