Concentrated in cask to a very deep greenish brown with a bright yellow rim. Treacle toffee and salted-butter nose with the most delightfully rich, sweet, dried orange peel palate. You think it's going to be just a little bit too rancio but it's not. Surely this was refreshed from time to time but it tastes genuinely ancient without being decrepit. Great stuff! A real treat to taste a great wine this old. I do hope this does its bit to regenerate the port category and show just what the Douro Valley can do. Very gentle on the palate and remarkably clean considering its age with no excesses and just the right mount of refreshing acidity for the thick, lightly raised sweetness. Bravissimo! Very long. Presumably it was bottled very recently.
