Critic Notes

Sine Qua Non’s 2008 Grenache Estate The Duel boasts extraordinary richness, power and sheer depth. Tobacco, leather, mint and spices are woven together in this large-scaled Grenache. There is plenty of intensity here, but the 2008 has just a touch less aromatic definition than the very finest wines at Sine Qua Non. I imagine some of that may be the result of extended aging in oak. The 2008 is 82% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 2% Viognier and 1% Roussanne, all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard in Santa Rita Hills. A portion of the Grenache was fermented using whole clusters. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. Aug 2012, www.robertparker.com

F+R Opinion
Daniel Landi: Grenache growing pioneer of the Sierra de Gredos
Just smelling, let alone tasting, the wines from Daniel Landi, you immediately know you are in some very capable hands. Looking at the pale ruby colour you might be surprised that this wine is 100% Grenache. This earthy, terroir-driven, mineral style Grenache has been described as “the Pinot Noir of the South”, providing amazing flavour complexity, intensity and persistence on ...

Castello di Ama - Leading the Renaissance of Chianti Classico
This week we were fortunate enough to source a selection of rare, aged parcels of single-vineyard Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, direct from the cellars of Castello di Ama. This winery has been a leading light in the renaissance of the Chianti Classico region and should be firmly on everyone’s fine wine radar. Castello di Ama is a must-have for anyone seeking ...

Festival del Potatore: Italy's First Vine Pruning Festival
Because terroir needs more than just sun and rain Last weekend saw the inaugural Festival del Potatore - Italy's first Vine Pruning Festival - held in the beautiful foothill vineyards of Franciacorta in Northern Italy. The Festival was the brainchild of Marco Simonit and his band of brothers known collectively as “The Pruninguys”; the closest viticulture is probably ever going to ...
