A blend of 61% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Malbec, the 2018 Château Soutard plays with the big boys in the vintage and sports a deep purple color as well as thrilling notes of crème de cassis and black raspberries intermixed with notes of toasted spice, forest floor, and earth. Full-bodied, concentrated, with plenty of background oak, it has building tannins yet always stays fresh, focused, and just perfectly balanced. This is a rockingly good wine that’s going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decade. Bravo.
