Aromas of blueberries and green coffee bean, with hints of green olives. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long juicy finish. Modern and intense. Very well done from here. Try in 2018. James Suckling,
This wine was held up on its way to the UGC tasting so I tasted it at home some days later, hence the rather longer note. 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Very dark crimson with a soft, narrow rim. Restrained, subtle and not overly sweet dark fruit, more plum than cassis. Oak nicely in check and evident only in a hint of spice on the finish. This is so thickly textured and generous in the mouth that you feel you could eat it rather than drink it - perhaps unfiltered? - but the tannins are round and smooth and there's lots of pleasure here. Really impressive density and just fresh enough to balance. Needs time to to achieve a little more clarity. (JH) Jancis Robinson,
The finest Soutard since the 1964, the new owners have built a much denser, richer, fuller-bodied wine without losing any of its masculinity and robust character. Dense bluish/purple, with notes of licorice, truffle, camphor and charcoal, the wine is quite backward, tannic and structured beneath the luxurious concentration of blackberry and black cherry fruit. Forget it for 4-5 years and drink it over the following 25+. Wine Advocate.February, 2012
Bore the brunt of hail in May. Consequently low yields. Fine, elegant style. Freshness from the limestone plateau. Drink 2016-2028
