The Foucault’s 2003 Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg leads with piquant walnut oil and nut liqueur, roasted red meats and beet root, and blackberry preserves. Imposingly – indeed, for the vintage, startlingly – plush, it finishes with bitter-sweet, dark chocolate-dipped cooked berries and a strong, firm streak of tannin. Enormously concentrated and dark in personality, this 2003 appears to need 7-10 years of aging. Aug 2007, www.robertparker.com
