The flagship 2004 Run Rig is 96.5% Shiraz and 3.5% Viognier with the Shiraz component aged for 30 months in a mixture of new and used French oak. Yields were a minuscule 14 hl/ha (about 1 ton per acre). Saturated opaque purple/black, it has a remarkably kinky, exotic perfume of fresh asphalt, pencil lead, smoke, pepper, game, blueberry and black raspberry. Full-bodied and voluptuous in the mouth, the wine is dense and packed, with amazing purity, sweet tannins, and a complex collection of sensory stimuli. The wine demands 10 years of cellaring and will provide hedonistic delights through 2035+. Jay Miller, The Wine Advocate, Oct 2007

Torbreck Run Rig - Behind the Bottle
Last week we were fortunate to have an extensive tasting with Andrew Tierney from one of Barossa’s most celebrated wineries - Torbreck. The estate is most famous for its two top cuvees, The Laird and Run Rig. The Laird is a rare beast, produced only in exceptional vintages. The latest release is currently 2012. Run Rig is therefore perhaps the ...
Uncovering Oakville’s hidden valley: Promontory
Ahead of the release of the latest vintage from Promontory, owner Will Harlan took us on a virtual tour of this remarkable property tucked out of sight in the Napa Valley As the drone camera takes us up over the trees, you can see how dense the forest is around Promontory’s vineyards in the western hills of Napa’s Oakville district. ...

RHONE VALLEY 2018 VINTAGE INSIGHT
The Rhone Valley has been enjoying a consecutive set of remarkable vintages since 2015. According to Michel Chapoutier, 2018 has continued in the same vein and he describes it as “a terrific year”. Indeed, the Rhone Valley followed a similar path to the rest of France in 2018. A very wet start to the year helped provide plenty of water ...
Napa Valley 2016 & 2017 Vintage Insights
The 2016 Vintage 2016 was undoubtedly a sensational vintage in Napa. Whilst it was the 5th warm vintage in a row, the season had a very wet start, so it was the first vintage in Napa since 2011 not classified as a drought vintage. For many, this brought more finesse to the tannins, more minerality and more balance to the ...
Understanding Rioja - F+R takes a trip to the Ebro Valley
Rioja is a wine I love, so I was delighted when the team and I had the opportunity to visit the heart of Spain’s most well-known wine region. And reflecting after a few days spent exploring the towns of Haro and Logrono, the wineries of CVNE, Vina Real and Contino and their myriad of mid-harvest vineyards, I grew to learn ...
