Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Initially, the impression on the nose of the Richebourg 2011 is one of the oak, although with encouragement it ebbs away to reveal finely tuned black cherry and strawberry fruit that is interlaced by fine tension and delineation. Upon further investigation – smoke, wet limestone and sea cave emerge and add another layer of complexity. The palate is succulent and fully ripe on the entry. There is great weight and density to this grand cru that is very well balanced with a really powerful, regal finish that just seems to expend vigor with aeration. Nov 2014, www.robertparker.com
