The 2013 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret is a little more primal than the Clos de la Pucelle on the nose and is yet to develop the same level of breeding. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, with hints of almond and brioche accompanying the citrus core of fruit, while the finish demonstrates impressive precision and symmetry. Great potential, but it will need time in bottle for those aromatics to fully open. ||Jean-Michel Chartron has really been ratcheting up his historic, Puligny-based domaine in recent vintages and I feel that there the reputation of this domaine is yet to catch up with quality you will find. Take just one look at the portfolio and you will see that Jean-Michel presides over some enviable parcels, even anomalies such as his red Puligny-Montrachet, as far as I know the only survivor (though as Jean-Michel pointed out to me, around one-third of the vines in Puligny were red until the Second World War.) You will find much to like in his 2013s, the wines generally full of vivacity and minerality, expressive of their respective terroirs. eRobertParker.com.December, 2014
