A full-bodied pinot noir with iodine, dried strawberry and oyster shell. It's like fossilized shells. Full body, velvety tannins and a long and intense finish. Decadent aftertaste. Made from a vineyard planted with 10,000 plants per hectare and 600 grams per plant. About 200 cases. Drink now. Jul 2015,
There is a new classical Pinot Noir from the Aconcagua Costa appellation, first produced in 2012, called Pucalán Arenaria Pinot Noir; it comes from four hectares of vines planted in 2006 at very high density (10,000 plants per hectare), situated on limestone subsoils with a layer of clay on top. The plants are from a Burgundy massale selection and the vinification is classical, slow fermentation of destemmed but not crushed grapes in cement vats with indigenous yeasts; it undergoes mallactico and aging in French oak barrels -- that are handcrafted by themselves -- for some 18 months. Winemaker François Massoc was a barrel maker and they make all the barrels they use in all the projects where he is involved. The nose is ripe and shows nice evolution with aromas of forest floor, decayed leaves, wild strawberries and even truffles. The palate is silky and ripe with soft tannins, very approachable and easy to drink. This is round, fleshy and ripe, classical Pinot. 3,600 bottles produced.

Clos des Fous has greatly expanded its range of wines and they are also growing in volume, with some 120,000 bottles currently. They hope to reach 180,000 bottles by 2018. Wines full of character and freshness, and some terrific values too. A name to keep on the radar screen. Dec 2015,, Drink: 2016-2019
Vivid red. Black raspberry, floral pastilles and a hint of woodsmoke on the highly perfumed nose. Gently sweet dark berry and cola flavors are lifted and sharpened by juicy acidity and a touch of allspice. A mineral quality gains strength with air and carries through a very long, seamless, incisive finish that shows just a trace of fine-grained tannins. Jun 2015,, Drink: 2019-2023
