Haart’s 2006 Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Auslese (A.P. #9) pushes the envelope on sheer gaudy over-ripeness, with musk melon, mango, candied pineapple. Yet for all of its near-excess of ripeness, the expression of botrytis per se is deftly integrated and not at all obvious. Moreover, a bright, refreshing citricity emerges that manages to enhance rather than conflict with the over-ripeness, and turns the plush-textured palate in the direction of refreshment. Sassafras, black tea, and brown spices all add allure and faint, complimentary bitterness to the long luscious finish. Oct 2008, www.robertparker.com
