Fantastic aromas of crushed berries, violets, licorice and blueberries. Full body, silky and firm tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Such class for the vintage. Powerful. Better in 2022. Feb 2017,
The gorgeous mouthfeel is already there, featuring polished structure and velvety blueberry, plum and boysenberry compote notes, inlaid seamlessly with spice, anise and fruitcake accents. The long finish lets the fruit flow. Another beauty from this estate, which has been on fire recently.—J.M. Wine Spectator, April 2015.
"The 2014 Péby Faugères is bold, powerful and intense in the glass, with huge red fruit, intense aromatics and pure, explosive energy. A wine of remarkable depth, the 2014 boasts marvelous richness, although the tannins are going to need time to soften. Juicy dark plums, pomegranate, sweet spices, menthol and new leather all add punch in a decidedly bold, extroverted St.-Emilion bursting at the seams with personality. Péby Faugères is 100% old-vine Merlot from a parcel that was carved out of the original Faugères vineyard. This is a superb showing from proprietor Silvio Denz and consulting winemaker Michel Rolland. "
The Château Peby-Faugères 2014 has more intensity on the nose than the Château Faugères, although here the wood is more conspicuous. Underneath lies copious black cherries and boysenberry fruit. The palate is full-bodied with thickly-layered black, toasty fruit. The acidity feels quite low and frankly, it does not express the terroir in the same accomplished fashion as the classy Château Faugères. Take your pick - I know what mine would be., 2015
