Critic Notes
This was a surprisingly good performance for a Pavie-Decesse, which has a tendency to be astringent and austere early in life. The 1993 possesses a deep ruby color. There is plenty of tannin, as well as nicely extracted, ripe cherry and plum fruit backed up with spicy oak, herbs, and wood. There is good purity, as well as a medium-bodied, firmly-knit build to this mid-weight St.-Emilion. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2008. Feb 1997, www.robertparker.com
Score: 86-/100 Robert Parker
A pleasant, lively core of plum, cassis, mineral and dried herb flavors, medium body and firm tannins. Needs time to show it all. try in 1998. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1996
Score: 85-/100 Wine Spectator

2014 Bordeaux: GPL, Feytit-Clinet and the Perse selection
Yesterday afternoon saw the release of 2014 Grand-Puy-Lacoste. This was one of our favourite wines of the vintage, and at GBP 375 per dozen in bond it looks good, though one can buy the 2008 and the 2006 for a similar sum. Whatever one might think of the price, the wine is excellent: pure Pauillac, complete and fresh. This morning sees ...
