Critic Notes

(from 4 different parcels scattered above and below the 1ers and the blend of vines averages about 35 years of age). Gouges noted that in 2015 the blend for this wine contains 40% from the 1er Chênes Carteaux so that there could be sufficient volume for their various markets. A background application of wood frames a similar if more complex and elegant array of ripe aromas. The sleek, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess lovely definition before terminating in a saline-inflected finish that is notably finer than it usually is. This offers simply terrific quality for its level and is highly recommended. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com

The 2015 Nuits Saint Georges Village, a blend on different small blocks between the south and middle of the appellation, offers a fragrant, well-defined bouquet with red cherries and cranberry fruit. There is impressive mineralite and transparency considering this is a "mere" village cru. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, tart cherries mixed with bergamot and hints of early grey. I appreciate the complexity here and it marks a significant step up from the Bourgogne Rouge. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com

Domaine Georges Lignier - 2018 Vintage Update
Domaine Georges Lignier has some of the most enviable Grand Cru sites in Burgundy with significant holdings in Clos de la Roche, Clos St Denis and Bonnes Mares. Based in the village of Morey St Denis, the domaine is today run by the ever-thoughtful Benoit Stehly, the great grandson of Georges Lignier, who has been in charge of the property since 2007. It ...

Domaine Georges Roumier Vertical Tasting
A very special thank you to Jordi Orriols-Gil for sourcing the incredible collection below and making this evening possible. It is not often one sits down to a 30-wine vertical tasting over dinner. And when 27 out of those 30 wines are Domaine Georges Roumier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, dating from 2007 all the way back to 1945, it's hard not to ...

Henri Jayer - Burgundy's most collectable wine
Henri Jayer’s career in wine started when he began looking after the Camuzet’s vineyards during the Second World War. He is most famously associated with the production of Vosne Romanee 1er cru “Cros Parentoux”,  a vineyard which, at the time he took over, was largely a neglected vineyard site sitting above the Grand Cru site of Richebourg. With very thin ...

Domaine Georges Lignier's Benoit Stehly's visits F+R
Benoit has had complete control at Domaine Georges Lignier since 2007 after taking over from his uncle. He had been working on the family estate since he was a kid, helping out at harvest and during bottling in the summer holidays. Only after his studies in 1999 did he join the domaine full time . It took a few years ...

Henri Boillot on Burgundy 2018
The Vintage Henri Boillot is widely seen as the top micro-negociant for the production of the Cote d’Or’s finest white wines, including Le Montrachet. He abhors heavy whites therefore expect the style of his white wines to be lean, precise and razor-sharp. His red wine profile however is notably different. Whilst he believes acidity and tension are vital for ...
