The 2015 Nuits St Georges, matured in 50% new oak, has an upfront and bold bouquet with raspberry coulis, crushed strawberry and rose petal aromas, quite Vosne-like in style. The palate has a little more structure than the Vosne-Romanee Village. There is impressive backbone in situ, slightly grainy in texture and with a mineral, limestone-tinged finish. Another very fine offering from Sebastien Cathiard. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com

I normally don’t taste the Nuits-Saint-Georges village from cask – but this year I had the pleasure. It’s a slightly more dense and rich wine in 2015 than the Vosne-Romanée village – following the tendency of the vintage. The nose offer more dark fruit – intense and ripe with a fine earthyness. On the palate rich with a nice energy – hints of energetic red fruit that ads some vibrant freshness to the wine. Nov 2016, www.winehog.org

(from a .13 ha parcel in Aux Athées). Firm reduction hides all but a touch of earth. I like the sense of underlying tension to the moderately muscular and admirably concentrated medium-bodied flavors that also culminate in a youthfully austere finish where the tannins are more robust and angular. This is very Nuits in character. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com

Domaine Georges Roumier Vertical Tasting
A very special thank you to Jordi Orriols-Gil for sourcing the incredible collection below and making this evening possible. It is not often one sits down to a 30-wine vertical tasting over dinner. And when 27 out of those 30 wines are Domaine Georges Roumier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, dating from 2007 all the way back to 1945, it's hard not to ...

Domaine Georges Lignier's Benoit Stehly's visits F+R
Benoit has had complete control at Domaine Georges Lignier since 2007 after taking over from his uncle. He had been working on the family estate since he was a kid, helping out at harvest and during bottling in the summer holidays. Only after his studies in 1999 did he join the domaine full time . It took a few years ...

The 2007 Red Burgundies
A couple of times a year, a group of a dozen or so of very knowledgeable and very experienced tasters get together to open, taste and share some Burgundy.  Serious Burgundy.  It’s an opportunity to discuss a vintage or two with like-minded connoisseurs and, of course, to enjoy food, wine and generally wine-related discourse.  It is a group that I ...
