Critic Notes

The 2014 Nuits Saint Georges Village, from vines located north of the village and matured in 30% new oak, has a tightly wound, mineral-driven bouquet that will need two to three years to open. The palate is well balanced with hints of blood orange infusing the red cherry fruit, velvety in terms of texture, mimicking a decent Vosne-Romanée. This should turn out to be a stylish Nuits Saint-Georges from Emmanuel Rouget. || Emmanuel Rouget was on hand to escort me through his 2014s at his winery and home in Gilly. His cellar was freezing cold as usual ,and therefore I was thankful for my warm hands (though they were cold by the end of the tasting). Emmanuel is a guarded winemaker, not easy to talk to at the beginning, although he becomes chattier as he loses his initial inhibitions and gives his opinion on the wines. I enjoyed these 2014s immensely. Too often compared with his uncle, Henri Jayer, whose holdings he took over in the early 1990s, they should be evaluated on their own merits. In the shape of his Cros Parantoux - for me, it is one of the outstanding wines of the vintage. Apr 16, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2018-2030

(90% finished with its malolactic fermentation): Bright, dark red. Very pure aromas of black cherry, licorice and violet. Juicy and youthfully imploded, with its density leavened by bright acidity and a floral quality. A wild suggestion of leather adds interest. The tannins are firm but not dry. A finer, more floral north-side style of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Jan 16, www.vinous.com

Domaine Georges Roumier Vertical Tasting
A very special thank you to Jordi Orriols-Gil for sourcing the incredible collection below and making this evening possible. It is not often one sits down to a 30-wine vertical tasting over dinner. And when 27 out of those 30 wines are Domaine Georges Roumier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, dating from 2007 all the way back to 1945, it's hard not to ...

Domaine Georges Lignier - 2018 Vintage Update
Domaine Georges Lignier has some of the most enviable Grand Cru sites in Burgundy with significant holdings in Clos de la Roche, Clos St Denis and Bonnes Mares. Based in the village of Morey St Denis, the domaine is today run by the ever-thoughtful Benoit Stehly, the great grandson of Georges Lignier, who has been in charge of the property since 2007. It ...

Domaine Georges Lignier's Benoit Stehly's visits F+R
Benoit has had complete control at Domaine Georges Lignier since 2007 after taking over from his uncle. He had been working on the family estate since he was a kid, helping out at harvest and during bottling in the summer holidays. Only after his studies in 1999 did he join the domaine full time . It took a few years ...

A visit from Domaines Barons de Rothschild
This week we were honoured to host our long standing partner Domaines Barons de Rothschild's commercial director Jean-Sebastien Philippe for a very special tasting.... It is not every day that one has the opportunity to taste a line up of wines from all of DBR's Bordeaux properties; in fact even individual tastings rarely take place outside of Bordeaux, so we ...

F+R Visits Domaine Leroy
Visiting Domaine Leroy is a highlight on any fine wine calendar and this year seemed ever more fortunate, finding the 2017s as composed as they will ever be, finishing up their last week of élevage in barrel before bottling planned for next week. On top of that Gilles points out that the 2017s have been the most consistently expressive vintage ...
