(there's just a single 150-liter Francois Freres barrel of this juice; vinified with "semi-whole clusters," according to Hervet; 13% natural alcohol): Good full red. Extravagantly complex, very ripe nose offers exotic cherry and raspberry liqueur, mocha, orange zest, blood orange and sweet oak scents. Almost painfully dense and concentrated, with an impression of sappiness that transcends pinot noir. Thick as a solid but with incredible energy. With its slowly building, utterly palate-staining length, this wine seemed thicker in my mouth after I swallowed it. Hervet expected to bottle this wine before Christmas while waiting three or four months for most of the other grand crus. Jan 2014,
A brooding and still exceptionally primary nose of red currant liqueur scents display a glorious array of anise, clove, sandalwood and plenty of stem/floral hints. There is imposing power to the large-scaled but not massive mineral-driven flavors that possess fine mid-palate density as well as an abundance of palate coating dry extract. I very much like the classy mouth feel as the supporting tannins are quite fine and the strikingly long finish is a beguiling combination of power and finesse. Don't let the finesse fool you though as this will require at least 15 years before it can be approached and longer until it's fully ready. In short this is stunning. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. From their négoce label, not their domaine. Mushy red fruit with fabulous clarity: rhubarb, redcurrant, red cherry. Very special stuff – has the fruitiness of great New World Pinot, plus a nourishing savoury dryness. Really delicious. (RH) 17+. Jan 2014,, Drink: 2016-2026
