80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. 18 months in 85% new oak. This is always a big step up in a tasting of the Vauthier stable and the 2012 has commendable focus on the nose with pure well-defined berry fruit. The palate is structured and compact with a crisp, fresh finish. FINE+RARE

An excellent wine from the Alain Vauthier family, this wine, which tends to be dominated by Merlot with some Cabernet Franc, has a dense, ruby/purple color and a nice sweet nose of blackcurrants, raspberry and incense. It is medium-bodied with excellent concentration and a long, nicely textured heady finish. A sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Apr 2015, www.robertparker.com
