Critic Notes

Things get much more serious with the 2011 Meursault Les Charmes, which is a huge step up from the preceding wines in this lineup of Meursaults. It boasts stunning richness, density and minerality, all while remaining relatively light on its feet. There is weightlessness and textural polish to the Charmes that is simply remarkable. This is a gorgeous showing from Henri Boillot. Anticipated maturity: 2014+. Aug 2012, www.robertparker.com

Score: 92-94/100Antonio Galloni

There is enough reduction present to mask the specific aromas but it seems clear that they are both ripe and complex. There is a beguiling refinement present to the solidly voluminous and concentrated medium weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the detailed, punchy, balanced and impressively lingering finish. This should amply repay extended cellaring if desired. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2018+

Henri Boillot on Burgundy 2018
The Vintage Henri Boillot is widely seen as the top micro-negociant for the production of the Cote d’Or’s finest white wines, including Le Montrachet. He abhors heavy whites therefore expect the style of his white wines to be lean, precise and razor-sharp. His red wine profile however is notably different. Whilst he believes acidity and tension are vital for ...

Domaine Henri Boillot - Producer Portrait
As Stephen Tanzer outlines in his recent report, Henri Boillot is the first out picking on the Montrachet slopes. The combination of small production and picking early comes from a desire to retain vibrancy and energy in the wines over and above riper styles of Chardonnay found elsewhere in the Cotes de Beaune. This mineral driven “understated” yet “explosive” style ...

Henri Jayer - Burgundy's most collectable wine
Henri Jayer’s career in wine started when he began looking after the Camuzet’s vineyards during the Second World War. He is most famously associated with the production of Vosne Romanee 1er cru “Cros Parentoux”, a vineyard which, at the time he took over, was largely a neglected vineyard site sitting above the Grand Cru site of Richebourg. With very thin ...

Charles van Canneyt - Producer Portrait
Charles Van Canneyt is the young vigneron at the helm of Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat. When Alain Hudelot-Noëllat stepped down from running the domaine in 2008 – a post he had been in for around three decades – he handed stewardship straight to his grandson Charles. Based in Vougeot, this domaine has seen vast improvements in quality in recent years, under the guidance of ...

Bordeaux Radicals: Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion
Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Stephanie Libreau from Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion at our London HQ, for a vertical tasting dating from 2016 back to 2012. These wines are brilliantly made, unique in so many ways and represent the cutting-edge of vinification techniques in Bordeaux. The rise in quality at the Chateau, along with the estate's reputation ...
