Critic Notes

(from Mazis Hauts and Bas and includes more than just domaine fruit in the blend). Once again there is just enough wood in evidence to remark upon on the notably ripe yet attractively fresh nose that combines notes of cassis, the sauvage, lavender and violet hints. The unctuously rich, full-bodied and lightly mineral-inflected flavors coat the palate with dry extract and buffers the moderately firm tannic spine on the dusty and noticeably warm finish that is noticeable enough that some may find it intrusive. Olivier Bernstein's Bespoke Burgundy
Undoubtedly one of our most memorable stops during our Autumn visit to Burgundy this year was the magnificent cellar of Olivier Bernstein in the heart of the old district of Beaune. Olivier Bernstein’s property is breathtaking, even before trying the wines in the cellar below. Olivier had the property completely renovated between 2005 and 2010, with the help of ...

A Vertical tasting of Louis Jadot's Chambertin Clos de Beze with Head Winemaker Frederic Barnier and The Wine Advocate's William Kelley. Maison Albert Bichot 2018s
Improvements both in the winery and most importantly the vineyards are really now coming to fruition for large negociant Maison Albert Bichot. Following the reduction of yields, careful extraction, prudent whole bunch fermentation, cold maceration and sensible use of new oak, the wines produced can now compete against those from some of the very best producers in Burgundy. The Albert ...

A Feast with Olivier Humbrecht at Hunan
After our wonderful masterclass with Olivier Humbrecht of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, we whisked him away, along with a few of our customers, to Hunan – one of London’s leading Chinese restaurants. Olivier planned another brilliant tasting for us – a Heimbourg vertical – designed to showcase the particularities of this single vineyard. With a particular focus on the Heimbourg Gewurztraminer, the ...

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht 2012s with Olivier Humbrecht MW
Olivier Humbrecht joined us in the FINE+RARE office to talk to us about the domaine and taste through his newly released 2012s, which mark his 25th vintage as winemaker. Here, we share some of our team’s favourites. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of, if not the, legendary wineries of Alsace. Based in Turckheim, the family domaine has been producing wine since ...
