I would have given this wine a slightly higher rating but the new oak has been pushed to the limit. Along with the toasty vanillin characteristics, the wine exhibits notes of graphite and black cherry liqueur, medium to full body, and impressive purity as well as elegance. It does not have the size of the 2003, but it is concentrated and successful for a right bank 2002. Drink it over the next 8-10 years. Apr 2005, www.robertparker.com
