The 2015 Liber Pater is one of the most intriguing wines I tasted this year. Inspired by research that showed phylloxera had never reared its ugly head here, proprietor Loïc Pasquet decided to plant these parcels with ungrafted vines. Those plants are only five years old, and yet the wine shows considerable pedigree. A host of dark red stone fruits meld together, but it is the wine's textural depth and unctuousness that truly stand out. Liber Pater is clearly a work in progress, and yet the wines are already compelling. Apr 2016,
The 2015 Clos Landiras from Loïc Pasquet's Liber Pater vineyard, was cropped at 15 hectoliters per hectare and is a blend of 50% each of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a refined bouquet of black plum and boysenberry, a touch of wilted rose petal. The palate is smooth in the mouth and has an unorthodox fruit profile, somehow earthy and almost saline, Japanese nori perhaps, with a smooth finish where I would just like to see more depth. Let's see if it puts on more weight during its élevage. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2018-2028
