This estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vineyard on the back streets of St. Helena, not far from the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena is dense ruby/purple with sweet blueberry and blackcurrant fruit, ripe tannin, medium to full body, an authoritative mouthfeel and an alcohol level at 14.8%. This is relatively full-throttle, but pulls back before it pushes too far. There is elegance, purity and overall harmony among all of its elements. The wine still seems youthful and unevolved, which is somewhat surprising for the rather flamboyant and showy 2012s. The finish is impressive and overall I think this is going to turn out to be special. Give it 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it over the following two decades plus. Dec 2015, www.robertparker.com

Maya Returns Home to Dalla Valle Vineyards
The Birth of the Cult Wine in Napa Valley The story of Maya is a fascinating one. Widely seen as Napa’s first cult wine, it was catapulted to stardom following the 1992 vintage becoming the second ever wine from the US to be awarded 100 points from Robert Parker. This was a big deal since Parker at that time was ...

Canalicchio di Sopra - Mapping out the vineyards of Montalcino
When Franceso Ripaccioli visited F&R headquarters last week, he provided us with the most generous and welcome break from Bordeaux EP releases, and a chance to escape in our minds and taste buds to the sun-soaked hills of Montalcino. The line-up of wines he presented was astounding. We tasted a total of 11 Rosso, Brunello and Riserva from wonderful ...

Feel the Energy! – F+R visits the secluded vineyards of Hegarty Chamans
Last week we visited a very special vineyard situated on the limits of the Minervois appellation yet completely secluded, surrounded by forests and lavender fields. The Hegarty Chamans property is a beguiling place and the moment you set foot on the property you sense the almost shamanic power this property holds, and was historically named after. Whilst the Languedoc ...

Venissa – The Walled Vineyard of Venice
Against All The Odds Venice is a city that seems to exist against all the odds: erosion, subsidence, flooding and over-population are all serious problems in this unique enclave of Northeast Italian coastline. Despite this, Venice remains arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world, full of history, some of the world’s finest architecture, craftsmanship... not to mention ...
