Average Score 90.79

The 2015 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron was picked between 18 September and 9 October, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, 60% aged in new oak and the remainder one-year-old. It represents 22% of the total crop, essentially a second deuxième vin, a terroir-based separation since this comes from more gravel soils. It has an understated bouquet, perhaps more so than the 2015 Les Tourelles that contains more Merlot. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, heightened graphite notes with a focused, almost brittle, but quite compelling finish, pencil shavings scattered over the aftertaste. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2021-2040
One of two second wines at Pichon-Baron, this is priced above Les Tourelles for some reason. First made in 2012, it’s a little more tannic, thanks to the Cabernet dominance, but has the freshness and poise that are a hallmark of the château’s reds in 2015. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2021-2028
The 2015 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron wraps around the palate with striking persistence and creaminess. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, new leather and licorice are all pushed forward. Succulent, open-knit and inviting, the Griffons captures the essence of the year in spades. Despite its forward personality, there is plenty of tannin and structure lurking beneath. This is a strong showing from the Griffons, the second wine of Pichon Baron. Apr 2016,
Chewy tannins underline the high percentage of cabernet sauvignon in this wine. Full and savory. Walnut and mineral undertones. Mar 2016,
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot. 60% new oak. Deep, thick crimson. Fresher than Les Tourelles. Racy and lively and a bit inky and polished. Lots of structure. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2025-2035
Lots of depth of good, spicy black fruits. Vigorous yet smooth, with the tannins already blending in. An impressive second wine. Apr 2016, Steven Spurrier,, Drink: 2020-2030
The 2015 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of black currants, black cherries and mulberries with earth, tar and meat suggestions. The medium-bodied palate is firm with a muscular core of earth and herbs-accented fruit and a long finish. Feb 2018,
