Very dense and layered with beautiful dried lemons, cooked apples and limes. Stone undertones. Full-bodied, lively and energetic. Bright and exciting. Salty finish. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
Made by the Guinaudeaus in new barriques. 100% Sancerre Sauvignon picked 9, 11 and 13 September. Very sappy and salty. Really appetising. This was the wine that inspired Cheval's white wine! Really exciting. Dense and tense. Pretty snazzy! Very precise. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2017-2022
The 2016 Les Champs Libres, produced by the Guinaudeau family of Pomerol's Château Lafleur, is 100% Sauvignon Blanc picked 9, 11 and 13 September, matured in Burgundy barrel with 70% new oak, the remainder one-year old. The nose is generous bouquet with peach skin and light nectarine aromas, nicely defined with lemongrass scents emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with fine delineation, a lovely fatness to this Les Grands Libres, but counterbalanced with that bite and tension to maintain the freshness. There is a hint of ginger right on the finish that persists on to the aftertaste. Apr 2017, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2021-2035
A gorgeous, expressive white, the Champs Libres leans towards the more tropical side of things in 2016. The summer heat yielded a wine rich in texture and overall intensity that nevertheless retains a good bit of freshness. White orchard fruit, smoke and a hint more tropical notes all build in the glass.
