Critic Notes

From the red slate soils in Weiler and the Monzinger Fruhlingsplatzchen, not fermented to full dryness, the 2016 Nahe Riesling Lenz opens with a beautifully pure and slatey bouquet. On the palate, this is a perfectly round and juicy Riesling, and the 15 grams of residual sugar give a lovely balance and fruity impression. The finish is piquant and salty. The 2016 already drinks beautifully but can be aged easily for 10 to 15 years. Feb 2018, www.robertparker.com

Thankfully 2018 has seen a return to more normal weather producing high quality of truffles, as well as ...

Solaia Vertical with Antonio Galloni, Piero Antinori and Renzo Cotarell
The evening started with Piero Antinori explaining how Solaia first came about, how it was effectively the result of a very lucky accident, much in the same way as Champagne. In 1978, the vines used to make Antinori’s Tignanello produced an unusually high yield of Cabernet Sauvignon. Rather than waste this, or blend it into the other wines, they decided ...

Rangen de Thann Grand Cru
Following our masterclass with Olivier Humbrecht MW and tasting through his extraordinary collection, we haven't been able to forget the wines from the Grand Cru vineyard of Rangen de Thann. These are wines that are overwhelmingly dominated by their terroir, with an abundance of mineral tones over and above fruit-forward flavours. Decanter’s Andrew Jefford describes the Rangen vineyard as "the ...
